Project Plan

At the October 2011 WSWC meeting, the WSWC approved of the implementation of the Water Data Exchange (WaDE) Project Plan. This plan outlines activities starting in November 2011 through Aug 2015. Under this project plan, the WSWC, through the coordination of the Water Information and Data Subcommittee, a subcommittee under the WSWC, will coordinate with the WestFAST team to develop a prototype data sharing framework.

The project plan is divided into six key areas:

  • Assessment and Initial Design
  • State and Federal Outreach
  • System Development
  • Review and Revise Products and Initial Release
  • Coordination with the Department of Energy National Labs
  • Coordination with the USGS Colorado River Basin Focus Area Study

Updated Project Plan for 2015

Sandia National Lab data products have been the primary focus of WaDE efforts during the 2012 and 2013. Component development has also continued through 2014, with an update of both the databases, REST URL format, and web services code to accommodate changes made with the newer v0.2 of the WaDE schema. These, and associated installation documentation, have been distributed to pilot states. For the states that have requested additional funding, Exchange Network grants have been procured to allow for WaDE installation through 2018.

  1. Web mapping application for the review of Sandia National Lab’s data products, and reviews by the state agencies (Mar. 2013 – Oct. 2013)
  2. Assist with web mapping application for display of current and projected scarcity by river basin/aquifer using vetted Sandia data products (Aug. 2013 – Dec. 2013)
  3. Finish State Capabilities Assessment Report (Apr. 2014 – Jun. 2014)
  4. Set up legal contracts and steering committee for FY2013 EN grant partner states (Aug. 2013 – Sept. 2014)
  5. Deploy WaDE framework within several states that have indicated they do not need additional funds (through Feb. 2015)
  6. Deploy WaDE framework for states with EN funding (through 2015)
  7. Release beta portal to the public with pilot states running (Oct. 2015)
  8. Refinement of front-end WaDE interface (2016)
